Poor living conditions, malnutrition, lack of warm clothes and pollution are all major causes of respiratory, heart and kidney disease. We work with our local medical centre, providing supplies, medical care, vitamins, clean and safe water supplies and public training in disease prevention programmes.

The doctors indicated that stomach diseases will increase as a result of soil pollution. Cancer is increasing, as are strokes and high blood pressure in 50 – 70 year olds. Babies still suffer from malnutrition, and this year there was a critical outbreak of Hepatitis A.

Over 140 people have received medical care from Asral NGO since 2005.Asral works closely with the local Medical Centre to provide training in Public health e.g.

  • World Aids Day, training in Aids prevention.
  • Disease prevention.
  • The importance of hygiene.
  • Training of volunteers.
  • Care of the elderly at home.

As a result of its tireless efforts to improve the health of the most vulnerable in the community, Asral received the award of Best Health Supporting Organisation of Ulaanbaatar City.

In Underschil, 380 kms south east in the Gobi desert, a new well, purification system and solar powered energy provided by funds from Ireland and the Dutch Government. continues to improve the health of the local community and provides employment for one man.

The hospital’s maternity wing, built with support from Electic Aid Ireland, continues to help women who are pregnant.
