High unemployment has resulted in increased crime, high rates of alcoholism and social problems. We work with the juvenile detention centre and women’s prison, offering practical and moral support to people who are experiencing despair and loss of hope.
There are 417 prisoners in the women’s prison, the only women’s prison in Mongolia. This means that women can be great distances from their families. Conditions are poor, prisoners are not provided with necessities, like toilet paper. Asral staff visit the prison on a regular basis, providing support, counseling, and some essential toiletries.
